It was Betty’s wish to be cremated and cremation rights have been accorded. Burial of cremains will be in the Shiloh Cemetery, Whittington, IL. at a later date.
Betty F. Kent, 75, of Casey, Illinois formerly of Chester, Illinois passed away at 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Casey Health Care Center, Casey, IL. Born on August 18, 1939 in Pelham, Alabama, she was the daughter of Vassil E. Payton and Ruby Louise (Horn) Payton. On July 20, 1955 she married Jesse L. Kent who preceded her in death on January 19,2006.
Betty was a graduate from the University of Alabama. She was a homemaker, an avid reader, enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening. Betty was one feisty lady who loved to travel.
Survivors include her son, James L. Coates, Talladega, AL.; a daughter Debra Y. Davis, Due West, S.C.; a daughter-in-law Diana Coates, Moody, Al.; four grandchildren: Joey and Amanda Kalmas, Willisville, IL.; Stephen Kalmas, Hobart, IN.; Ivy and Aleve Coates, Chester, IL.; five step-children; one great-granddaughter; a brother Leon Payton, Heber Springs, AR.; along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Betty in death were her parents; her husband; three sisters: Mildred Tully, Jean Payton and Evelyn Payton; and one brother Eddie Coates.
Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL is in charge of arrangements.
